Sports Connections is a puzzle game about sports based on the Connections format. In each round players are presented with a series of clues that they must identify the commonality between. Clues may range from athletes and sports teams to cities, stadiums, or other sports-related facts.
How to Play Sports Connections
Finding the connection between clues
Six clues appear sequentially in each round. The first few clues are rarely enough to determine the answer; players must examine the entire list to identify a shared characteristic.
Connections can be quite straightforward, such as a group of teams located near the Great Lakes or athletes who played their entire careers for a single team. Other puzzles require broader knowledge regarding stadiums, awards, team history, or athlete careers.
Bidding for the right to answer
Sports Connections adds a point-bidding mechanic to the standard Connections puzzle format. Each player starts with 200 points. After each clue is revealed, players can bid for the chance to answer.
The highest bidder earns the right to guess the connection between the clues. A correct guess awards the player the points they wagered, while an incorrect guess results in the loss of those points. Each player may place only one bid per clue; a new bidding round begins when the next clue is revealed.
If no one wishes to bid, the game proceeds to reveal the next clue. Scores cannot drop below zero; players who run out of points can still participate with a minimum bid of 20 points.

Sports Connections is not limited to a single sport. Questions span a wide range of disciplines, including the NFL, NBA, and NHL, as well as baseball, soccer, and many others. You might find teams that moved, players who came back to the field after retiring, teams that share a stadium, or sports stars who were in movies. A couple of questions are based on certain scoring systems or obscure details.
This variety means that every round requires a different line of reasoning. One hint might make an answer obvious, while another might require knowledge of other sports.
