Gerdle
Gerdle is a version of Wordle… but it seems someone decided to take it a bit overboard for fun. Instead of guessing a 5-letter English word, you'll be faced with a 27-character German word. Yes, that's not a typo, it's twenty-seven.
From the welcome screen, the game is straightforward: this is Wordle, but harder in a rather… funny way. The interface maintains a classic gray tone, but inside is a system full of buttons: view word list, statistics, settings, share results. It looks familiar, but the gameplay feels completely different.
Gerdle Gameplay
Guessing a very long word
You still have 6 guesses, but instead of the usual 5 squares, the grid extends to 27 squares. Typing the word also becomes a separate challenge, especially with the keyboard having additional characters like Ä, Ö, Ü, or ß.
Understanding Colors in the German Version
The color rules remain the same, only the colors change:
- Black: the letter is not in the word
- Yellow: present but in the wrong position
- Red: correct letter, in the right place
Why black, yellow, and red? Because those are the colors of the German flag. It sounds simple, but it's easy to get off track if you're used to the green of Wordle.
Using Helpful Tools
The game allows you to open the word list for quick selection, view statistics, or copy the results as emojis to show off. These small things are quite useful when you're struggling with an unusually long word.
Tips for Survival
Don't try to understand every word
With such length, you often don't need to know the exact meaning. Focusing on identifying letter patterns and gradually eliminating possibilities will be more effective.
Utilizing Special Characters
Characters like ß or Ü don't appear randomly. If the game "hints" at one of them, stick with it, as it helps narrow down the possibilities very quickly.
Embrace the Absurdity
This game is actually intentionally troll-like. The more relaxed you are while playing, the more enjoyable it becomes, rather than annoying.
Gerdle isn't an easy-to-win version of Wordle; it's a challenge that will make you laugh out loud because of its over-the-top nature. If you're tired of familiar puzzles and want to try guessing a word that's almost an entire sentence long, this is a worthwhile option. And if you want to return to a more data-driven, logical guessing game, you can try Futboldle.
