Yeardle

Yeardle is a game that challenges your historical knowledge and time-based reasoning skills. The game provides various clues, all leading to the same year, and you have up to 8 guesses to find the correct answer.

How to play Yeardle

Get clues:

  • You will see some important historical events (which can be political, scientific, cultural, sports, etc.).
  • For example, “The Berlin Wall fell,” “Taylor Swift was born,” and “The Game Boy was released.”

Guess the year:

Enter a year that you think is correct (for example, 1989).

Get feedback:

After each guess, the game will tell you how close or far you are from the correct year, helping you adjust your next guesses.

  • Black (1600 AD - ▲ 500+ years): This means your answer is 500 years older than the correct answer.
  • Gray (800 AD - ▼ 200+ years): Indicates that you guessed 200 years less than the answer.
  • Dark red (990 AD - ▼ 10+ years): Means that you guessed 10 years less than the answer.
  • Red (1070 AD - ▲ 50+ years (in the century)): You guessed 50 years more than the answer but still in the same century as the answer.
  • Orange (1009 AD - ▼ 3-10 years (in the century)): You guessed 3-10 years less and still in the same century as the answer.
  • Lighter orange (1013 AD - ▼ 3-10 years (in the decade)): You guessed 3-10 years less and were in the same decade as the answer.
  • Yellow (1018 AD - almost got it): You were very close, only 1-2 years off.
  • Green (1017 AD - Bravo!): Congratulations! You guessed CORRECTLY!!!

Keep guessing:

You can make up to eight guesses until you discover the right answer.
