Spellie

Spellie is an online word-guessing game where you input a word and deduce the correct answer based on its colour. The game has 3 modes: Easy – Medium – Hard, with increasing difficulty. It also features a collectible emoji system (over 700 emojis) and a calendar allowing you to replay puzzles from 2022.

How to play Spellie

Enter any word. After each guess, the game will colour each letter: green (correct letter and position), orange (correct letter but incorrect position), or blue (letter not in the word).

For example, you enter a vote; if it's correct, you win. If you guess wrong, you'll use the colour to adjust your next word. The goal is to find the correct word within the limited number of attempts.

  • Easy Mode has clearer hints. It's suitable for beginners or for light entertainment. For example, guess the vote, then deduce who voted and you're done. This mode is quite easy to farm wins in; you can even reset and enter the correct word if you want… it looks like a first try.
  • Medium Mode is no longer as easy as Easy. You have to think more. You can rely on tips like many English words end in 'e', using familiar opening words like "train" to test common vowels and consonants.
  • Hard Mode is where the real challenge lies; there are no hints, and you have to make the most of each guess.

Interesting feature: Emoji system

Spellie has over 700 emojis you can unlock. Each correct word can be associated with a corresponding emoji. Playing for a long time will give you the feeling of collecting your own emoji set.

You can review your past playdays and replay puzzles from previous days. The game started on February 10, 2022, so there's a whole treasure trove of puzzles for you to grind through.

Spellie is a simple word guessing game but with depth thanks to its many modes and interesting emoji system. Easy for entertainment, Medium for brain training, Hard for smashing the table. If you'd like to switch to a word-guessing game with a sequence of words, you might want to try Traindle.
