Pokerogue

Pokerogue is a Pokémon-inspired roguelite game where each playthrough is a completely new journey. You're not simply catching and training monsters. You're entering a loop of 200 consecutive battles, where losing a single battle means starting over. Maps, wild Pokémon, items, bosses, and even opponents are all randomly generated. No two runs are alike.

How to Play Pokerogue

When starting a Classic Run, you choose a starter based on a point system. Stronger, legendary Pokémon cost more points. Pokémon caught during gameplay can be unlocked as starters for future runs and may even have better IVs or hidden skills.

Every 10 stages will feature a boss or Gym Leader. Interspersed are battles with rivals that appear periodically. You receive items after each battle: permanent stat buffs, level-up candies, healing charms, EXP charms that share experience… The money used for recovery increases in value as you progress, so resource management is crucial.

The game has an egg system and a gacha machine using vouchers earned from achievements. Eggs can hatch high-stat Pokémon, powerful egg moves, and even shiny or legendary ones. There's also a 50-stage Daily Run with a leaderboard.

Features

Level cap increases with each stage, forcing you to allocate EXP wisely. Some bosses have multiple health bars. Towards the end of the game, you'll face the Elite Four, Champions, and a final battle with Eternatus, which has extremely difficult mechanics. Not only do you need a strong team, but you also need to strategize each move.

Pokerogue is addictive because of the clear feeling of progress after each defeat. You lose but unlock more options for the next time. And when you finally defeat the level 200 boss, that feeling is truly worthwhile. If you love Pokémon but want a challenge in the realm of strategic survival, the result is an experience well worth trying. And once you've conquered this grueling loop, you can switch things up with The Impossible Quiz Book: Chapter 2 to challenge yourself in a completely different way, where conventional logic is almost useless.
