Murder
Murder is a short arcade game with a unique twist: you begin as an aspiring usurper aiming to seize the throne, then must defend your position against those who come after you.
The game's appeal lies in its cyclical nature. Each time roles shift, the situation changes. A single wrong move can cost you control, while holding power for an extended period unlocks different endings and reveals more about the kingdom's history.
How to Play Murder
Sneaking up on the king
In the first phase, you must approach the king from behind without being detected. While the gameplay is simple, it requires careful observation of timing and precise action. If successful, you take the throne. Your objective then shifts completely: instead of stalking the king, you must remain vigilant against those trying to approach you.
Defending the throne
Once you are king, keep a close watch on characters approaching you. Not everyone who appears before you harbors ill intent, so reading the situation is crucial. If you hold your position long enough, your character ages, and the story branches off in new directions.
Multiple endings to discover
Murder offers great replayability thanks to its multiple endings. Failing to assassinate the original king leads to a vastly different outcome than successfully seizing and maintaining power.
One ending reveals that the current king has a past connection to the throne, casting suspicion on the cycle of assassin and monarch. Another plunges the kingdom into chaos following the loss of central authority.
The mystery behind the throne
Portraits in the castle, the appearances of past kings, and the physical changes characters undergo as they age all contribute to a narrative that the game never explicitly explains. That is why Murder is more engaging than its simple appearance suggests. You don't just play for a high score; you also have reasons to replay, discover different endings, and piece together small details to form a broader picture of the kingdom.
