Couplecut

CoupleCut is a word puzzle game where you have to guess the answer according to a clue shown at the top of the screen. In this game, you are not typing in single letters like you do in the classic word guessing games but instead you are working with the words that are already on the board by slicing them into syllables or smaller pieces and putting them together to build the target word. The end goal is to fill in the blank at the top with the correct word.

How to play CoupleCut

Cutting and joining bits of words

The core mechanics of CoupleCut are two actions, “Cut” and “Couple.” Right click on a word to break it up into syllables or smaller parts. Then click two fragments in a row with the left mouse button to join them. Not all pieces formed by cutting are meaningful English words on their own, so consider pronunciation and combinability rather than just the meaning of each piece.

Once you find the right combination, place it into the blank space at the top to check your answer. To start over , press Enter , the Spacebar , or the Reset button to restore the puzzle to its original state .

Example

For example, the answer to a clue like “Person who writes news” could be JOURNALIST. The fun is, you have to not only know the answer but find the exact pieces that make up the answer. The red syllables are especially important, because they are part of the answer we are looking for.

Tips and Hints

Text to speech

One simple tip is to say the word you are thinking (either internally or out loud) and then try to break it down into syllables. This helps you to better visualize the fragments you have to find.

Listen for red syllables

Focus especially on the red highlighted syllables, as these are parts that are already known to be included in the answer. When you find them, try to combine them with the other fragments instead of cutting all the words at random.

When you’re done having fun in CoupleCut, you can find fun in other games like the music game Songle.
