Chessguessr is a unique chess guessing game created by the players themselves, inspired by a combination of GeoGuessr and chess. Instead of guessing locations on a map, players use their chess detective skills to deduce from a position on the board.

How to play Chessguessr

The gameplay is simple but extremely mind-bending: players only see the position of the pieces after White's 10th move and then must guess two things:

• The opening being used
• Who won that game?

At this very early stage, everything is ambiguous: the king hasn't castled, pieces may have been unusually swapped, pawn structures are distorted, or even missing pieces, forcing the guesser to analyze every small detail, such as where the pawn disappeared, which bishop was swapped, is it a gambit, or some other unusual opening variation?

After the initial guess is made, the entire game is revealed to test the reasoning: whether the guess was correct or incorrect and whether the game unfolded in a favorable direction as predicted. It is this element of surprise, chaos, and bizarre chess positions that makes Chessguessr so incredibly interesting and humorous.
